5. Manasija Monastery
Venture out of Belgrade to discover Eastern Serbia, full of tales of the medieval ages, Ottoman and Serb battles, yet still intact with its beauty. Smederevo Fortress, your first stop, has walls bricked by thousands of eggs to be more stable and durable. This was once the temporary capital of Serbia and withstood numerous sieges. The Monastery Manasija is next. A place of great serenity, its massive walls and towers make it look like a fort. Nearby, visit Rešava Cave, one of the largest cave systems in Serbia, then refresh by Lisine Waterfalls and enjoy an authentic local lunch.
