13. Fruška Gora
Poised on the forested hills by Sava and Danube rivers in northern Serbia, Fruška Gora National Park is the oldest in the region. As you move up the hills, the valley of pastures and vineyards turns into forests of linden and hornbeam oak. Scattered around the region are 35 Orthodox monasteries, built between the 15th and 18th centuries. These were places of pilgrimage and refuge during persecutions, and the center of resistance against the Ottoman Empire. Fifteen of these monasteries can be visited today. Explore the park and enjoy a traditional lunch at an ethno village soaking up traditional flavors and mesmerizing natural beauty.
