6. The Roman Salona
Venture to Solin, the town with the youngest population in Croatia and some of the most remarkable Roman remains in the country. Visit the site of the ancient Salona, once the capital of the Roman province of Dalmatia. Once a town of 60 000 inhabitants, Salona was allegedly the birthplace of Emperor Diocletian. Today, this impressive archaeological park attests to Salona's magnitude with monumental towers and gates, forum with temples, an amphitheater and cemeteries of Salonian martyrs.
