16. UNESCO Treasures in Split and Trogir
Head down to coast from Zadar to explore central Dalmatia and its UNESCO-listed gems, Trogir and Split. Their historic old towns are still occupied by locals, with present and past blending in every with gaze. In Trogir, wander the tightly knit, walled in, web of stone alleyways, and admire splendid architecture like the famous Romanesque-Gothic Cathedral of St. Lawrence. In Split, travel further into history to the Roman era, as you explore Diocletian's Palace, originally built for one man and now housing a city. In true Dalmatian fashion, stop to enjoy a long coffee or toast with a glass of wine, and relax over a lunch of fresh local cuisine.
